This course combines real-time, virtual face to face learning to provide an interactive experience with group conversation, practical exercises, and syndicate group break out rooms. On completion of this course learners should be able to:

  1. Explain the role, duties and responsibilities of the fire safety manager in the context of the wider healthcare organisation’s management structure and in accordance with HTM 05-01;

  2. Describe the purpose and contents of the organisation’s fire safety policy;

  3. Determine the appropriate level of management and its attributes to meet the needs of a healthcare organisation;

  4. Outline the legal context and requirements for fire safety deriving from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and how it applies to a healthcare organisation;

  5. Identify the key elements of the healthcare organisation’s fire safety management system;

  6. Describe an appropriate reporting structure to provide board assurance and inform the annual statement of fire safety;

  7. Explain the purpose, structure, content and implementation of fire safety protocols;

  8. Describe the key elements of emergency evacuation plans and develop methods for their rehearsal;

  9. Explain the need for fire safety training, the process of undertaking a training needs analysis and developing a system for the audit of training efficacy;
